Chinese tech giant ByteDance has launched a new artificial intelligence tool, Jimeng AI, which can create videos using text commands, within the Chinese market. According to a report by Reuters, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance developed this new product through its subsidiary Faceu Technology. Here are the features of the new AI.
Jimeng AI, similar to OpenAI’s Sora, offers various creative capabilities to users:
- Visual Production with Artificial Intelligence: Users can define their ideas using natural language, and the Jimeng AI creates unique visuals accordingly.
- Video Creation: Videos can be generated using text input, allowing multiple trials to achieve the desired outcome.
- Sharing Opportunities: Created contents can be shared through links or saved to devices.
- Community Discovery: Users can examine others’ work, comment, and derive inspiration.
- Customization: Users can copy other’s work and personalize it.

Jimeng AI is securing its place in the rapidly growing artificial intelligence video tools market in China. But it does face competition from global competitors like Kuaishou’s Kling AI and Zhipu AI’s Ying, as well as Shengshu’s Vidu app, which hit the market recently.
This development points towards the increasing interest of Chinese tech corporations in AI-supported video production tools, following OpenAI’s Sora, announced in February but not yet available.
