Qualcomm, next-generation processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, made its first appearance on the Geekbench platform. The processor, expected to hit the market in October, is particularly striking with its multicore performance.

According to Geekbench results, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 2884 in the single-core test, nearing the 2915 average score of Apple’s A17 Pro processor. However, what truly stood out is the multicore performance. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 scored 8840 in the multicore test, surpassing the A17 Pro’s average score of around 7300.

Qualcomm is making a significant architectural change in this new processor. Instead of standard Arm cores, a special Oryon CPU design similar to the one used in the Snapdragon X series developed for PCs will be used. This change is expected to lead to a significant increase in performance.

Benchmark results provide information about the processor’s core architecture. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 features six basic cores running at 2.78 GHz and two high-performance cores running at 4.09 GHz.

However, this performance increase seems to come at a cost. According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the price of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be %25-30 higher than that of the current flagship 8 Gen 3. This could result in increased prices for flagship smartphones to be launched in 2025.

In conclusion, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 seems to be on track to become the most powerful processor for Android devices in 2025. However, users might have to pay higher prices for this performance increase.
